Roxana Soltani is an associate attorney with the Encino office of McDermott & Clawson, representing clients with workers’ compensation defense issues from the analysis stage through litigation and resolution. She joined the firm in 2007, after gaining ten years of experience in workers' compensation, intellectual property law, and civil litigation at other firms including her private practice.
Background
Born in Tehran, Iran, Ms. Soltani attended Copley High School in Copley, Ohio and received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Akron in 1984. She began college as a biology and pre-med major, with course work focusing on physiology and anatomy.
Her first job after college was working as an intake counselor for a Goodwill Industries Vocational Rehabilitation program, administering personality tests such as the MMPI, Beck, and Rorschach tests, IQ tests and various aptitude tests. This experience and her pre-med background have been quite useful in her practice as a workers’ compensation defense lawyer.
Prior to law school, Ms. Soltani also worked as a professional service public relations/marketing manager, promoting the business of various law firms in the Los Angeles area.
In 1997, Ms. Soltani obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of La Verne College of Law, in Woodland Hills, California. She maintained a private practice from 1998 to 2001, specializing in civil litigation and intellectual property law. Following six years as an associate attorney with Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi, a large San Francisco-based firm specializing in workers' compensation defense, Ms. Soltani joined McDermott & Clawson and has quickly become a highly valued member of our team.
Professional Affiliations and Community Involvement
Concurrent with her admission to the California State Bar in 1998, Ms. Soltani provided legal assistance as a volunteer/pro bono attorney with the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Domestic Violence Project (1998–2000) and the Volunteer Lawyers Project (1998–2000). She has been active since 1998 as a pro bono attorney for Amazon Watch (http://www.amazonwatch.org/), a non-profit environmental organization founded by her sister Atossa Soltani for the protection of the Amazon Rainforest and the indigenous tribes living in the Amazon.
Roxana has also been a board member of the Iranian-American Lawyers' Association since 2004. In her leisure time, she enjoys traveling, swimming, music and movies.
