James K. McDermott

James K. McDermott, the Managing Partner of McDermott & Clawson, founded the firm in 1986 after nearly 15 years as an Attorney and Partner in other highly regarded and well established Workers Compensation defense firms.  His vision, leadership and experience guide McDermott & Clawson’s attorneys in their work as litigators and counsel in the defense of Workers Compensations litigation throughout Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino Counties.

Background

Mr. McDermott received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University in 1967 and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1972.  While attending law school, Mr. McDermott gained invaluable experience working in the workers compensation claims department for Travelers Insurance Company (1967-1972).

After graduation from law school Mr. McDermott took a position at Kendig, Stockwell and Gleason as an attorney in their workers compensation legal department.  In 1974 he became a Partner in McConnell, Cramoline and McDermott.  He became the Managing Partner of their Orange County office in 1978 where he continued until 1986 when he left to start his own firm.

Many employer groups, insurance companies, third-party administrators and public agencies have hosted Mr. McDermott as a lecturer on numerous topics related to workers compensation with a heavy emphasis on how clients can measure the performance of  legal counsel and the cost effectiveness of that representation.

Interests

Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his granddaughter, golfing, wine tasting and playing cards.
