Amy G. Rivera

Amy G. Rivera is a senior associate attorney in McDermott & Clawson's Los Angeles/Encino office, specializing in worker’s compensation defense. She brings to the firm her unique background and more than two decades of experience as a registered nurse. Ms. Rivera is a Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation with the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization.

Background

Ms. Rivera obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in 1980 and was immediately commissioned into the United States Air Force. She attained the rank of Captain while serving in Ohio and Wyoming. She left the Air Force in 1984. While continuing to work full-time as a nurse, Ms. Rivera obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Whittier College School of Law in 1992. She was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1993.

Her nursing background includes experience in medical/surgical, obstetrical, industrial and infertility medical management. She has implemented industrial monitoring programs for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, and Dade County, Florida personnel. Ms. Rivera has chaired national nursing conferences in stress management and crisis intervention and has been a guest lecturer at numerous nursing seminars.

Ms. Rivera joined McDermott & Clawson in late 1999. She lectures and writes extensively on numerous issues in workers’ compensation defense law and her articles have been published in firm newsletters. As a senior attorney with McDermott & Clawson, Ms. Rivera conducts yearly seminars for clients as well as lectures at the Workers' Compensation Defense Attorneys convention.

She lives with her husband, Fernando, with whom she likes to spend her free time, in West Los Angeles.
